Our Team

Erica Harris, founder, CEO and director of sales and business development

Erica Harris was a corporate litigator at numerous prestigious Chicago law firms, including Eimer Stahl Klevorn & Solberg, a litigation boutique spun-off from Sidley & Austin. After practicing corporate litigation for many years, Erica was alarmed at the rate at which women attorneys were leaving the practice of law. She felt the legal profession was losing a powerful group of brilliant, successful, self-motivated women. She realized a new passion: creating a community where women attorneys from all backgrounds could bridge the gap by leveraging their collective resources to share knowledge and connections, build their books of business and have a higher quality and more meaningful professional and personal lives.

Erica's passion is also deeply personal. Erica was raised by a single mom and watched her struggle as the caregiver who made sacrifices to her career and income to meaningfully raise her children. Erica is deeply passionate about ensuring women as caregivers who must provide for their families can take on meaningful careers and high-income jobs. She does not want to see women taking low-paying jobs with little job security or benefits because they are caregivers. Erica supports changes to the Family Medical Leave Act to acknowledge the true demands of caregiving and the impact on work. Erica has witnessed many women around her sacrifice career goals to raise children which left them vulnerable to abuse or economic devastation after divorce. Economically, women as caregivers have less work hours available to them due to managing and providing caregiving. It impacts women's income potential, job security, and keeps women in poverty, which impacts children and overall health of society.

On a global scale, Erica does not want to see women in poverty and abuse due to caregiving obligations. Erica believes in getting into the trenches, but believes the fastest way to solve the social problem affecting women globally is to put women into leadership positions who then have the network and ability to effect change. She believes one of the best ways to make the world a better place is by economically empowering women. It is Erica's vision and goal to unleash the intellectual capital of The Legal Balance community by providing a network of resources to enable women to work at a greater capacity and efficiency and become leaders, business originators - and as caregivers - as a way to bridge the gap.
