Frequently Asked Questions

If you have questions that aren't answered here, please email us at

Q: Can I keep my identity private?

A: Yes. It is up to you how much personal or identifying information you want to share on The Legal Balance. You can set up your screen name and control how much personal information is shown here. We know that many members may not feel comfortable talking publicly about work issues.

Q: Can I ask questions or start conversations that aren’t directly about the practice of law?

A: Yes, with some caveats. We encourage our members to talk about all sorts of issues. You can ask for childcare suggestions, or favorite Chicago restaurants, or even start a conversation about a favorite hobby.  However:

  • Please don’t “hijack” the thread, or topic, by changing the subject. Start a new topic. If the new topic is popular, we will create a separate forum. If we don’t do it for you, feel free to email us at to ask.
  • In S-Suites, please stick to the topic, or previous topics, that have been introduced. These forums are about building careers, not chatting about hobbies.
  • Be respectful and use common sense. Don’t start a conversation that insults another member or is offensive, inappropriate, inflammatory, defamatory or abusive in any way.

Q: How do I report a thread or a post?
