A client has been asking me to go for a drink with him. Should I go?

Dear Jane,

I’m on a big case that requires me to travel frequently with one of the partners who is also on the matter.  We work all day, go out to dinner with the folks from the client assisting with the case, and then head back to the hotel.  Lately, he’s been asking if I want to have a drink with him.  He is a perfect gentleman and has become a very good mentor.

Sincerely,

Wondering If I’m Playing This Right

Dear Wondering If I’m Playing This Right,

There is no right answer to your inquiry, but something obviously is bothering you for you to pose the question. If it felt “right” I would tell you to leave it alone. Since something does not feel quite “right,” my recommendation is that next time you go straight up to your room upon arrival back at the hotel.
